“What an extraordinary film!
It is an ode to women’s quest for freedom which starts with her sexual liberation. I completely agree with Emma Stone (the actress, not the character) when she says: “It’s such a fairy tale, and a metaphor—clearly, this can’t actually happen—but the idea that you could start anew as a woman, as this body that’s already formed, and see everything for the first time and try to understand the nature of sexuality, or power, or money or choice, the ability to make choices and live by your own rules and not society’s—I thought that was a really fascinating world to go into.”
That is the main theme of the film but not just. It also questions the ethical limits of science, the relationships between parents and children – overprotective or abusive – and so much more… What struck me was that despite some dark moments the overall impression was one of optimism.
Technically it is a very aesthetic film with a steampunk retro futuristic approach i.e. a fusion of science fiction and Victorian technology.
Last but not least it is just the kind of movie I like offering a combination of serious subjects, a lot of humour – I laughed out loud – and beautiful pictures. I definitely recommend it!”
Quel film extraordinaire !
C’est une ode à la quête des femmes pour leur liberté qui commence par leur libération sexuelle. Je suis totalement d’accord avec ce que l’actrice Emma Stone dit du film : « c’est un conte de fée, une métaphore – clairement ça n’est pas réaliste – mais l’idée que l’on pourrait renaître dans un corps de femme déjà formé et tout voir pour la première fois, essayer de comprendre la nature de la sexualité, du pouvoir, du choix et vivre selon nos propres règles et non celles de la société, j’ai pensé que c’était vraiment un monde fascinant à explorer. »
Ceci est le thème principal du film mais pas que. Il questionne également les limites éthiques de la science, les relations parents-enfants – surprotectrices ou maltraitantes – et bien plus. Ce qui m’a frappé c’est que malgré des passages sombres l’impression qui reste est optimiste.
Techniquement c’est un film très esthétique utilisant une approche rétro futuriste, steampunk, une fusion de science-fiction et de technologie Victorienne.
Enfin c’est tout à fait le genre de film que j’aime car il combine des sujets graves, beaucoup d’humour – j’ai même éclaté de rire – et de très belles images. Un film incontournable !
